Due to my special business relationship we have with Unibroue, I was able to taste an extremely rare bottle of “Jerry Christmas” which was to eventually become La Résolution.

Brewed since 2014, La Résolution was inspired by a recipe Jerry Vietz created for his friends, it is a dark ale with a spicy character. With a 10% alcohol content, its spicy caramel aroma evolves on the palate into pleasant and complex notes reminiscent of gingerbread. Its perfect balance of spicy, caramel and roasted malt flavors is complemented by a pleasant roundness and persistent finish. A cold-weather brew that warms the heart.

STYLE: Unibroue-style specialty holiday dark ale. 10% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Very dark brown (almost black) liquid color. Head color is light tan, cotton-ball like density. There is very thick lacing on the sides of the glass during consumption.

AROMA: Bready Unibroue yeast, holiday spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) gingerbread, deep rich caramel.

FLAVOR: Aromas carry over into the flavor alone with toffee, burnt caramel, roasted malt notes.

MOUTHFEEL: The signature blend of Unibroue creaminess with moderate effervescence found in their dark ales. The holiday spices linger quite a bit.

IMPRESSION: The aging potential (the website says 3-5 years) we feel with the aging potential of Unibroue dark ales, it could go up to 10 years. Warms the heart, it is the perfect accompaniment with a holiday ham with yams, or to be paired with a high quality rum cake. Seasonal availability, get it while you can.

Santé mes amis!
