Brewed since 2007, 17 Grande Réserve is brewed once a year. This highly complex beer holds equal appeal for beer enthusiasts as for wine lovers.

In the winter of 2008, a unique beer commemorating the brewery’s 17th Anniversary hit the market. The first commercial creation by master brewer Jerry Vietz didn’t have a label and bore the simple name of 17. In 2011, given how well the ale was aging and how many prestigious awards it was racking up, they decided to bring it back as 17 Grande Réserve. Every fall, they charm beer lovers with this vintage brew, named the “World’s Best Dark Ale” at the 2010 World Beer Awards in London, UK.

STYLE: Unibroue-style strong Dark Ale. 10% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Dark amber liquid color. 3-finger height light tan colored head has a cotton ball density and leaves thick lacing on the sides of the glass during consumption.

AROMA: Signature bready Unibroue yeast, deep roasted malt, coconut, vanilla, wood, dark fruit.

FLAVOR: Rich malty flavor with bready yeast, cocoa, mocha, Paladin cherry pipe tobacco, French oak.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, the spices and wood almost have a tannic feel in the mouth. The malt and wood flavors strongly linger.

IMPRESSION: The very first time I tried 17 Grande Réserve was in 2010. It was a true revelation at the time! One of the world’s great beers. Seek it out for sure. Age it up to 10-15 years.
